Kissing and hugging are natural ways of showing love and affection between friends and family. Before anyone completely panics about kissing anyone, as long as you don't kiss someone who is known to be sick (like the flu, or who has mono, etc.), and don't kiss someone with ugly, dripping, oozing, puss-filled sores right around their lips then light kissing is actually considered to be a safe behavior.

Passionate and intimate french kissing carries the same risks as light kissing, plus the exchange of fluids (spit-swapping) increases those risks. It also allows for other sexually transmitted diseases to pass, such as Herpes Simplex Virus-2, Hepatitis B and Syphilis. The trick to dramatically lowering your risks is to really know your partner well, to know their sexual history, and to know their current health status (the couple who gets tested together doesn't get a disease together.... something like that).

Very few if you avoid kissing someone who is currently ill or has open sores around their mouth, and if you know your partner's sexual history.

French Kissing risks more than other

French kissing is the best preferred as the intimate kiss between loved ones. However the UK research shows that french kissing puts teens at greater risk of contracting meningococcal disease than their lip-pecking counterparts. The study, published this week in the British Medical Journal, involved about 300 teenagers aged 15 to 19 who had been admitted to hospital with a meningococcal infection.

Intimate kissing with multiple partners appears to increase the risk of contracting the disease, a religious event was associated with a low risk. The microbes that we normally carry in our throats are readily transmitted to another person through intimate kissing.

When microbes that cause meningitis are transferred from one person to another, the body's immune system is normally able to repel them and they don't do any harm. If by chance you have a sore throat because of a smoky atmosphere or an existing virus, you can get caught by the disease.

But teens that avoid smoky parties and don't kiss with a sore throat may still be at high risk, the study suggests. University students are a high-risk group. The passionate and intimate kisses are practiced in universities more.

He speculates that teens with a religious lifestyle may have fewer opportunities to exchange saliva, thus putting them at low risk of the disease. Believers might prefer to account for this particular finding as the power of prayer.
